The Finnish-Norwegian Cultural Institute is partnering with Frame Contemporary Art Finland to bring Norway-based curator Sarah Lookofsky to Helsinki in conjunction with the Helsinki Biennial professional preview programme in early June.

Helsinki Biennial 2025 brings together 37 artists and collectives on Vallisaari Island, in Esplanade Park, and at HAM Helsinki Art Museum. Titled Shelter: Below and Beyond, Becoming and Belonging, and curated by Kati Kivinen and Blanca de la Torre, this year’s edition runs from 8 June to 21 September 2025.

Professional Preview Program

Frame, HAM Helsinki Art Museum and Helsinki Biennial 2025 are arranging the professional preview programme on 6–8 June 2025. The professional programme includes a diverse range of exhibitions, discussions, events, guided tours, and meetings with artists and curators. It brings together art institutions, such as museums, galleries, and independent art spaces, offering visitors a comprehensive overview of the local artistic scene.

Frame hosts a group of international curators for the preview week in the context of the Frame Visitor Programme. The visitor programme at the preview week is organised in partnership with the Finnish Institute in Germany, the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland, the Finnish Cultural Institute for the Benelux, the Finnish-Norwegian Cultural Institute, The Finnish Cultural Institute in Denmark, and in collaboration with AV-arkki – the Centre for Finnish Media, Kohta, Bioart Society, Pitted Dates, and Galleria Huuto.

Sarah Lookofsky is Director of Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo, a kunsthalle founded by artists in 1930 that includes exhibition spaces, a cinema, and artist studios. As the institution approaches its centennial, Lookofsky explores how art and its institutions inherit and respond to histories amid contemporary crises. Previously, Lookofsky was Associate Director of MoMA’s International Program in New York, focusing on modern and contemporary art from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Central and Eastern Europe.

Sarah Lookofsky’s participation is organized in collaboration between the Finnish-Norwegian Cultural Institute and Frame.
