Tromsø International Film Festival
15.01 - 21.01

The Finnish-Norwegian Cultural Institute is collaborating with Tromsø International Film Festival (TIFF)  to screen films from the Finnish side of Sápmi. During TIFF 2024, several aspects of truth and reconciliation will be highlighted through the program Films From the North. On Wednesday 17. January, the festival brings culture and arts professionals together for a panel discussion on reclaiming cultural heritage of the Sámi, a central theme explored in Suvi West and Anssi Kömi’s documentary Homecoming

HOME TO SÁPMI: REPATRIATION

Finally, the Sámi people are to reclaim their heritage. Debates about cultural diversity, truth, and reconciliation are sparking much-needed change. But how can the profound wounds of being deprived of belongings, cultural and spiritual symbols, and even the remains of their ancestors heal?

Welcome to a conversation moderated by Sajje Solbakk, Festival Director of Riddu Riđđu.

Suvi West, filmmaker, Runar Myrnes Balto, Member of the Governing Council of the Sámi Parliament and Marit Myrvoll.
