Oslo Innovation Week: Sustainable Building Now

As the recently published IPCC report states, we need to act NOW to limit global heating. When it comes to buildings, the sustainable solutions and alternatives already exist – we just need to use them.

During Oslo Innovation Week 2021, The Finnish-Norwegian Cultural Institute is joining forces with Embassy of Finland in Norway and Business Finland to organize a webinar on sustainable architecture and construction. At the webinar, we will bring together experts who work towards sustainable building solutions. We’ll cover sustainability of building from different perspectives: from architecture to networks and clusters as well as sustainable solutions for the construction sector. We’ll also discuss how the design process and new sustainable innovations work together.

Lahdelma & Mahlamäki Architects (LMA) is an internationally acclaimed architecture office based in Helsinki, Finland. Over the years LMA has become synonymous with high-quality, socially aware design, and renowned for its deep understanding of the impact of history, location and the human touch.

At Sustainable Building Now, we are thrilled to present the Urban Environment House designed by LMA. The constuction has won the Tekla BIM Award 2020 for Finland and the Baltics, which is awarded for the extensive and advanced utilization of building information modeling technology in a construction project. The Urban Environment House  is also shortlisted for the 2021 Finlandia Prize for Architecture, the highest award for architecture in Finland.

MDH Architects  was founded in 2010 and has since then been involved in projects of all scales ranging from single family houses to complex buildings and urban planning. MDH has in a very short time gained extensive experience in large complex CLT (cross-laminated timber) projects and is one of the leading offices in Norway in the use of CLT in large architectural projects.

Together with MASU Planning on landscape MDH won an invited competition in 2017 for a new elementary school in Liland, Evenes, in northern Norway. We are excited to present the very soon completed construction at Sustainable Building Now.
