We warmly welcome Sofie as our new intern at the Finnish-Norwegian Culture Institute! She will be with us until the end of the year, supported by the Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland.
Can you tell a little about yourself?
I am originally from Sweden but for the last couple of years I have been living in Finland. I studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki, where my focus area was sculpture. During my studies I have been active in several projects in the Nordics and in the Baltics. For example, I was part of instigating the artist group Relä that has organized exhibitions in Bergen, Trondheim and Copenhagen. I also attended a course at Oslo National Academy of the Arts during my studies, where I got a good impression of Oslo’s cultural life, something that made me interested in coming back.
In my spare time I like to read, I am currently on a bit of a sci-fi kick. I often go to the cinema as well, like sewing fun things and checking out exhibitions. Previously, I have also been working as a bike mechanic.
What motivated you to apply for an internship at FINNO?
I wanted to apply to FINNO because I found their previous projects and collaborations interesting. I thought it would be exciting to do work that was focused on the North. It also felt like a fun opportunity to work in such a multilingual environment, at the institute and in its program Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Sámi languages and English are used. During my internship I am looking forward to getting hands-on experience from working in the cultural field and with international collaborations. It will be nice to get to know Oslo’s and Norway’s art scene better and to make new connections here.
How does moving to Oslo and starting your internship feel?
It feels very exciting to be here in a wintry Oslo. During my first evening here, I got to see the Northern Lights for the first time in my life while strolling past Ibsen’s grave: it felt like a great welcome!
Welcome to the team, Sofie!
